Central City - Auckland
"Central City - Auckland"
I am trying to make a point of taking a few photos every day, so I am going to take photos of things I think are interesting around the central city in Auckland when I am there. Including works of art like the statures that are around the city.
Main Central Citypage.

Don't Panic
This is one of the power/phone boxes decorated by Paul Walsh. It's just off High Street in the new setting area a block down from the Art Gallery.

Compass
This is the newest bronze sculpture opposite the Auckland Art Gallery in the central city. It doesn't show up well in my photos, but it is of a stylized figure with it's feet at the top and head at the bottom and one of it's hands is holding a compass at the very bottom.

Noo Zillun
This is one of the latest power/phone boxes decorated by Paul Walsh. It's in Jean Baton Place, which is the small road at the end of High Street in the central city.

Commerce St Mural
This was painted on the wall inside a building on Commerce Street that is being renovated at the moment. It is open to the public because there is a café in part of the building that is still operating they have extended their seating into this part of the building.

K Rd Public Toilet
This mural is in the area between the men's and women's section of the older public toilet at the end of K Rd next to Grafton Bridge on Symonds Street. It's by John P Stevenson and was painted in 2011.

Library Wall
This is the latest mural on the building site wall opposite the central city public library. It currently covers the mural painted for the Maori New Year from last year.

Cytoplasm
This sculpture is called Cytoplasm and is by Phil Price. It moves in the wind, so I've included a video of it moving as well as the photos as the video gives a better idea of what it's supposed to look like.
Building Site Mural
This is outside of the building sites currently in the Wyndham Quarter and is next to the ASB Waterfront Theater.
Long Modified Bench Waitemata
This is called "Long Modified Bench Waitemata" and is by Jeppe Hein, currently it's next to the marina in the Wynyard Quarter. Recently, (about one to years ago I can't remember exactly), it was in the sculpture terrace on the top floor of the Auckland Art Gallery. Today was actually the first day I've seen it in its current position without anyone sitting on it!

The Pacific Journey
This was painted on the temporary walls put up outside the main train station in the central city - the one at the end of Queen Street in the Britomart area. The url under the mural's title is www.charlesjaninewilliams.com.

Library Seat
This is the new sculpture across the road from the Auckland Art Gallery. It is the first one I've seen that has actually had any indication who made it and when it's by Paul Oibble in 2016.

Bronze Sculpture
This is a large round seat that is next to the public library in the central city. It was painted with this mural around the base earlier this year.
