Christmas 2017
"Christmas 2017"
Smith & Caughey Windows
Smith & Caughey is the big department store part of the way up Queen Street, which has a Christmas story set out in its windows every year. This years story is a priate version of The Night Before Christmas.

Aotea Square
There are daily shows/live music and events being held here with a lot of covered seating.
Farmers' Santa
This is the Santa that used to be on the old Farmer's department store that was a couple of blocks off Queen Street, when that Farmer's shut down in went onto the large Whitcoulls store in Queen Street. That shut down earlier this year and was replaced a Farmer's again, so it's still on the same shop on Queen Street it has been for years but it's also back on a Farmer's store again. (I also suspect that the reason it almost didn't go up last year was due to the Whitcoulls having finical difficulties and not being able to afford it anymore). It used to be mechanical and have one of its eyes winking and the index finger on its right hand beckoning people. The first two photos were taken about five days before the rest as they were just starting to put it up.It wasn't going to go up this year due to budget cuts at the council, until a number of different companines donated enough money to cover repairing the Santa and putting it all up.
The Elliott Street Angels
Elliot Street is one of the short side streets running parallel to Queen Street, on the opposite side of Queen Street than High Street.
Atrium on Elliot
These are the decorations in the Department Store on Elliot Street. I like them because they’ve got the large stuffed toys – a couple of red Santas and the blue elves – as decorations rather than just the standard decorations I usually see in places like that.
Christmas Boxes
These are the same ones as the last two years.
Vulcan Lane
These are the decorations that have been put between the shops in Vulcan Lane, which is one of the small streets between Queen Street and High Street. This year a lot of the side streets off High Street have the same white decorations strung between the buildings.
