"The God of the Hive"
By: Laurie R. King

This is one of the books in her larger Mary Russell series of books and the direct sequel to The Language of Bees. Both books really should have been a single longer book rather than being split into the two separate short books, as it’s really just a single plot line that has cliff hanger at the end of The Language of Bees and is resolved normally at the end of The God of the Hive. (I am still pissed off by the unexpected cliff hanger in that book).

It is perfectly readable ad well written despite the plot being light and drawn out. I’m also not impressed by the way that the author “kills” off characters only to have this reversed later on – a important character is “killed” off at the end of The Language of Bees only to have come back to life in this book and another important character is “killed” later on in this book only to be found alive later on, she also uses the same plot device in another book too.

I do think people who enjoy this series will enjoy this book though, but I do think that The Language of Bees and The God of the Hive do need to be considered one single book and should be read close together in order to keep the basic plot from the first book fresh.
