"The Dark Room"
By: Minette Walters

This is book is well written and easy to read, but for a crime novel it is incredibly simplistic despite having a "surprise" ending. The main problem is the plot isn't strong enough to warrant the length of the book, despite it not being that long and the whole book is held together by her (with her editor's help) writing skills rather than being a particularly interesting plot in any way.

In a way this is a pity because she is a good writer, the problems with the basic plot just let this book down. It is readable, especially if you like thrillers/crime novels and want something you read you're sick or travelling and don't want something with a plot that you'll have to concentrate on in order to be able to keep track of.
